Date: Saturday 23 May 2026 Venue: Crawley Result: Blackheath & Bromley WIN with 635 points Headline Last season we came within a whisker of the promotional final. This season the mission is singular: reach the final, and from there promote back to the Premiership. Round 1 has signalled our intent. A 35-point opening-fixture win over Crawley AC — our nearest rival on paper and likely to be so all season — puts us top of the table with maximum league points from the first of the qualifying matches. Exactly the start the mission requires. Set against the calibre of the squad on show, the result reads even more strongly. Charlotte Henrich lined up at Crawley fresh from representing GB at the World Relay Championships and Wales at the Loughborough International. Lauren Farley, Dillon Claydon, Holly Mpassy, Joseph Scanes, Jed Starvis, Bailey Stickings, Daisy Snell and Zara Obamakinwa all turned out within days of competing at the Loughborough International. Eight Loughborough internationals and a World Relays GB vest, all backing up for the club at the opening Championship round — and all delivering. The standout individual mark of the day came from Zara, whose Discus 56.84m was the biggest throw in either gender across the whole match. Backed up by Dillon‘s double A-string maximum in the men’s Shot (17.13m) and Discus (54.77m), and a match-defining win for the men’s 4×400 (3:21.52), the team took control through the strength events and the longer sprints. Match Summary Blackheath and Bromley finished on 635 points, ahead of Crawley AC (600) by 35. Herne Hill Harriers (464), City of Portsmouth (381), Basingstoke & Mid Hants (358) and Kingston & Poly (250) followed. Forty-nine athletes were declared. The match was won on the depth across both strings: A-string individuals contributed 326 points and B-string individuals contributed 227 — meaning roughly 41% of our individual scoring came from the B string. In a match decided by 35 points, that depth was the difference. A-string event wins: 14 individual + 1 relay (men’s 4×400). B-string outright wins: 5 (Evan 200m, Marley 400m, Jed 800m, Holly 100m & 200m). A+B clean sweeps (both strings combined for 22 points): 7 events. Headline Performances Charlotte Henrich — Women’s 100m A (11.60) and 200m A (23.55). Double A-string maximum. 24/24. Straight in from GB duty at the World Relay Championships and Loughborough, looked unhurried at the top of both sprint events. Combined with Holly’s two B-string wins, both sprints were 22-point sweeps. Zara Obamakinwa — Women’s Discus A, 56.84m. The biggest throw of the match. Backed up by 2nd in the Shot A with 12.09m — 22 points across two events. Backing up from Loughborough. Dillon Claydon — Men’s Shot A (17.13m) and Discus A (54.77m). Double A-string maximum. 24/24. Backing up from the Loughborough International with no drop-off in either circle. Daisy Snell — Women’s Long Jump A, 6.25m (win). Another Loughborough international stepping straight into NAL duty and winning the A string outright. Men’s 4×400 — 3:21.52, 1st A. A match-defining team performance. Thomas, Bailey, Marley and a strong anchor leg. Lauren Farley — Women’s Javelin A 51.15m (win) and Shot B 11.32m (3rd). 22 points, with the Shot a late move from the JT-only original entry. Another Loughborough International turning the screw at NAL level. Holly Mpassy — Women’s 100m B (12.07) and 200m B (24.49). Two B-string wins. Loughborough International form carried straight through. Joseph Scanes — Men’s 800m A, 1:52.22 (win). Another Loughborough athlete. Paired with Jed Starvis — also fresh off Loughborough — winning the B in 1:53.76 for a 22-point sweep. Bailey Stickings — Men’s 400H A, 52.10 (win). Another of the Loughborough contingent. Also a key leg of the winning men’s 4×400. Kelechi Aguocha — Men’s HJ A 1.86m (win) and TJ A 13.17m (2nd). 22 points across two events. Elsa Pawson — Women’s Pole Vault A, 3.46m (tied win). Madeleine matched the height for 10 in the B string — a combined 21 points from a single bar. Harry Fage — Men’s 3000SC A, 10:25.37 (win). Backed by Micah 2nd in the B (10:56.76) for a clean sweep. Tony Ndukwu — Men’s 110H A, 16.62 (win) and 400H B, 1:07.32 (2nd). Doubled up across two hurdles events. Top Point Scorers (combined A + B) Claudia Baker — 25 pts (HJ A 7, LJ B 8, TJ B 10). Three events, top individual tally. Dillon Claydon — 24 pts (SP A 12, DT A 12). Maximum. Charlotte Henrich — 24 pts (100m A 12, 200m A 12). Maximum. Kelechi Aguocha — 22 pts (HJ A 12, TJ A 10). Zara Obamakinwa — 22 pts (DT A 12, SP A 10). Lauren Farley — 22 pts (JT A 12, SP B 10). Tony Ndukwu — 20 pts (110H A 12, 400H B 8). Brydon Duncan — 20 pts (SP B 10, DT B 10). B-string MVP. Holly Mpassy — 20 pts (100m B 10, 200m B 10). Two B-string wins. Zoe Austridge — 20 pts (400H A 12, 100H A 8).
YDL Upper South Premier, Match 2 — Match Report Date: Sunday 24 May 2026 Venue: Thames Valley Athletics Centre Result: Blackheath & Bromley H AC win with 729.5 points Headline A strong team performance to take Match 2 and move to two wins from two, putting B&B top of the table on maximum league points and well placed heading into the rest of the season. See below for a personal report from women Team manager, Tim Soutar The standout moment of the day was the U18 Women’s 4x100m. Izzy, Cheyanne, Sophie and Ruby clocked 46.48 — a time that ranks 5th fastest in the UK this year across all women’s 4x100m squads, not just the age group. A really notable run from a young quartet with plenty of season still ahead of them. Headline Performances Aaron — U18 Men’s Hammer 5kg A, 59.94m. A big throw to win the A-string, backed up by Rory with 55.82m to take the B-string. Cheyanne — U18 Women’s 100m A, 12.08 (grade 9). Tight A-string win over Grace Sikora (12.09). Ebube — sub-11 for the first time, 10.99 to win the U20M 100m B. A milestone performance, and the sort of breakthrough that points to where his season is heading. Backed it up in the winning 4×100. Eliot — U18 Men’s 400m A, 49.33. Anchor leg of the winning U18M 4×400. Emilia — U18 Women’s Shot Putt A, 16.09m. Top performance grading of the entire match (1,198 UKYDL pts — the quality scale, not the team-points scale). Also took 2nd in the Javelin A with 30.57m. Joshua — U18 Men’s Long Jump A, 6.94m. Second-highest performance grading of the match (1,124 UKYDL pts). Also third in the U18M HJ A on 1.80m. Kian — U18 Men’s 800m A, 1:58.06. Only sub-2 in the field. Olivier — U18 Men’s Shot Putt 5kg A (16.32m) and Discus 1.5kg A (47.36m). Double A-string win. Omari — U20 Men’s High Jump A, 1.93m. Jumped up an age group from U18 and took the A-string win. U18 Women’s 4x100m — 46.48 (UK No.5 overall this year, across all age groups). Izzy, Cheyanne, Sophie and Ruby. The performance of the day. Depth Across the Programme A match like this is won as much in the second events as in the headline wins. A few that deserve particular mention: James — U18M HJ B, 1.50m for joint third, not long after winning the U20M 3000m B in 10:41.86. Off the track and over the bar, and scored in two age groups in two events that couldn’t be more different. Aniket — U20M 800m B (2:15.13) and U18M 3000m B (1st in 9:48.64). Ran up an age group and still found a win back in his own. Nathan — U20M 3000m A (2nd in 9:22.61) and U18M 800m B (2nd in 2:06.04). Same pattern — points in the older age group and his own. Rory — U18M PV B (1st, 2.96m) and HT B (1st, 55.82m). Two B-string wins in two very different events. Alexander — U18M 400m B (1st, 52.64) and 400H A (4th, 57.06). A 400/400H double is no small task; he then anchored the winning U18M 4×400. Tane — U20M 400m B (1st, 54.23). B-string win. George — U18M JT B (1st, 39.23m). B-string win. Honey — U20W 100m B (2nd), 200m B (3rd) and 4×100 lead-off. Three scoring runs. Multi-Event Standouts Several athletes shouldered multi-event loads and delivered across the board: Ella — U18W triple-up across the throws: SP B (1st, 11.71m), DT A (1st, 33.88m), HT B (2nd, 25.12m). Jackie — U18W triple-up: HJ B (2nd), DT B (1st), HT A (2nd, 43.20m). Fayo — U18W triple-up: 100H B (1st, 14.32 grade-9), HJ A (2nd, 1.60m), JT B (1st, 23.18m). Rebekah — U20W triple: 100H A (1st, 15.09), SP A (3rd), JT A (3rd, 27.87m), plus the U20 A 4×400. Oji — U20M sprint double (100m A 11.08, 200m A 22.27) plus 4×100 lead-off. Ruby — U20W sprint double (100m A 1st 12.28, 200m A 1st 25.66) plus anchor of the U18W 4×100. Cheyanne — U18W sprint double (100m A 1st 12.08, 200m A 2nd 25.21) plus the U18W 4×100. Charlie — U18M PV A (2nd, 3.76m) and JT A (2nd, 51.23m). Match Summary B&B finished on 729.5 points, ahead of Harrow & Dacorum (584.0) in second.
Two wins from two, top of the league on maximum league points, and a good platform to take into the rest of the season.

Ian, Tim and Helga

——————–

Tim’s report Phew, What a Scorcher!

Our second league match of the summer, as is often the case, fell in the middle of the late May Bank Holiday weekend. For a change, we were promised good weather, potentially too good, as it turned out, with an unwelcome record being set during the day of being the hottest so far. It was also scheduled for the day after the first Senior NAL match, which was never going to be a benefit, and the middle of exam season. Nonetheless, girls rallied round and many gaps were filled, so we arrived in Eton with most events filled.

We also arrived as Division leaders, knowing that another decent performance would see us leave with a foot in September’s National Final. By 11.00, and the start of the track programme, it was already becoming uncomfortable for intense activity and the thermometer was only going in one direction. Gracelyn got us off to the best of starts with a win in the U20 long hurdles and Beth was placed in the U18 race. Up next was the 3000m (complete with drinks station) and our three reps, Naimah, Charlotte and Aida each won their categories, earning us mega points given very few other girls braved the conditions.

The weather was certainly more conducive for sprinting and we took full advantage with Ruby and Cheyanne taking the U20 and U18 A races respectively and Honey and Sophie runners-up in the B strings. Out in the infield Jackie and Ella similarly took 2nd places in the U18 hammer and the two Annabelles took bronze positions in the Long Jump. Not to be outdone, Emilia was again over 16m to win the U18 shot (and in the process topped the ‘points for performance’ table for the match) with Ella taking the B string and Rebekah placing 3rd in the U20. Back on the track, we weren’t at full strength for the 400s, but Beatriz and Alice both placed in the B strings to keep us moving along, before another boost from Rebekah, Izzy (dipping under 14 seconds for the first time) and Fayo, each winning their sprint hurdles category.

More good news was to follow with three second places and a third in the 200s from Cheyanne, Sophie, Ruby and Honey. The 800s proved a bit more of a struggle with several girls missing and others on their second race of the day: Naimah’s 2nd place was very creditable in the circumstances. We were also missing regulars in the pole vault but Elsa, in her second event of the weekend, contributed with… 2nd. Elsewhere in the field, Fayo was producing a quite remarkable performance, or rather performances, in equalling one PB (HJ, finishing 2nd) and beating another (javelin, winning the B string) within the space of a minute! That must surely be some kind of record! Jackie also finished 2nd in the B string HJ, with Alice 3rd in the U20

We were then treated to an impressive exhibition of relay running from the U18 4×100 relay team of Izzie, Cheyanne, Sophie and Ruby. Winning in a time of 46.48 seconds, this moves the Club to the top of the age-group rankings and ahead of every university team other than Loughborough. It added new meaning to ‘enjoying one’s moment in the sun’! The U20s also had a solid run to secure 2nd spot.

Our day was almost done, but not before our two steeplechasers, Hannah and Lily, had the opportunity to take a cooling dip or two on their way to winning both the U18 A&B strings. With the field drawing to a close with Izzie and Annabelle taking good points in the triple jump, all that remained were the long relays. The U18 squad of Beth, Leah, Alice and Sophie were convincing winners before an impromptu quartet of Naimah, Rebekah, Rowan and Bea contributed to 2nd and 3rd places in the two mixed races.

Job done – a win by almost 150 points from Harrow & Dacorum – everyone could look forward to an air-conditioned journey home.

26 April 2026 – London With 32 finishers the club were very well represented. Perhaps fittingly in the largest field in the event’s long history, this was the highest number of club members finishing since 2015. Moreover, for the second consecutive year over half of our runners finished in under 3 hours, including 3 under 2:30, and 10 under 2:45. Among numerous impressive runs and PBs, the standout was Andrea Clement, who broke the women’s club record by 21 minutes, clocking 2:32:11. This placed Andrea 3rd female among the mass start (15th overall) and we believe ranks as 3rd fastest GB FV40 of all time. Ollie Knowles retained the men’s Club Champion title, recording 2:25:20, a 2 minute PB, and well inside the top 100 finishers among the masses. Even closer to the (very) sharp end was second claim member Charlie Davis, in 2:14:48. Full results in the table below and a selection of photos below that

7 March 2026 – Report from Paul Austridge 1926 was the first edition of the UK National Inter Counties Championships and 100 years later, Nottingham played host to this year’s top class series of races. With all English counties sending their top athletes, along with the best of Welsh and Scottish athletes, racing was always going to be of a high quality. U13 boys Three BBHAC U13 boys helped Kent win the UK gold team title. Another very strong run from Zach Evans placing a superb 10th, with Emery Aldridge also having a superb run, just three seconds behind in 13th. Luc Jones’ impressive debut season ensured his Kent selection in his first year in this age group and ran well in this first class company. U17boys The U17 National Club Champions continue to impress, picking up two individual medals, Joe Scanes a strong silver and Joseph Hill a fine bronze. Backed up well by great runs from Ben O’Grady, Nathan Clark and Daniel Horgan. Oliver Ward started well but unfortunately had to pull out mid race. U15 girls Evie De Bruyn had another strong run placing a high 35th in a very competitive field. Strong runs from Sofia Mossi, representing Middlesex and Alba Homans Yau running in the dark blue of Kent. U13 girls Three BBHAC athletes representing Kent in the under 13 race, saw Jazzy Stephens, in her second National Inter Counties, placing high and great debuts for year young Sophie James and Elsa Matthews, both making strong accounts of themselves. U15 boys Johnny Lee toed the start line after selection following his fine county bronze and ran hard over the tough hilly 4K course at Woolaton, but was disappointed with his run, great fuel for the up coming English schools XC champs. The National inter counties also double up as the final fixture in the British Cross Challenge and great to see Benj Evans entered and running hard, against the best in the county, placing well up the field. U20 men Alex Middleton made the short journey from his University to the course and had a very strong run over the hilly 6K course, placing a high 42nd and another strong run in county vest for Harry Fage. U17 girls Naimah Mossi was the only BBHAC under 17 girls racing and Naimah ran well in the county colours of Middlesex. Senior Women On the back of strong National XC run it was great to see Niamh Bridson-Hubbard looking strong and relaxed as she won a fine bronze, helping her Kent team to an eighth position backed up well by Ailbhe Barnes, Milly Smith and Carys Firth all having great runs. Senior men Good to see Sam Parsons selected for Kent and running well helping the Kent team place well. 2nd claim Jack Shayler was an impressive 14th, running in his county colours of Oxfordshire. Being selected for these championships is an achievement in itself, as is being selected as reserve, in the very competitive county of Kent. Congratulations making that list go to Holly Tallack, Akul Gurunathan, Aniket Iyenger, and Dexter Mein. Kyla Dervish and Andrea Clement were also selected but were unable to run. Hannah Clark was also selected but this Championship race was trumped by her selection by Great Britain to represent GB in the up coming World student games. Best of luck in Italy Hannah.

21 February 2026 – Sedgefield Young Athletes Report by Paul Austridge The iconic National cross country champs returned to the North East for the first time in over a decade, with East Hardwick Park, Sedgefield, County Durham playing host. The weather was not cold, blowy but dry and the course more challenging than it first appeared. Fifty one Blackheath & Bromley young athletes had made the long journey up north, as well as thirteen in the Senior Men (8) and Senior Women (5). Most of the youngsters were on the team Coach, which after a couple of fuel/comfort stops arrived in time for a shake out run at the Country House hotel we were staying at, before a swim in the hotel spa and a little time to relax. Dinner was good and the evening was complete with coach Mike Reeves motivational challenge for each athlete, giving them the opportunity to speak positively about the person sitting next to them. A full choice of breakfast the next morning before for a short journey to the course and some brilliant racing, that ultimately saw BBHAC win superb team gold for the under 17 boys and team silver for the under 13 boys. Five of our large under 15 boy squad toed the line and placed 14th team with Johnny Lee placing an impressive 25th backed up by Ricardo Cervera-Tomlins (90 places higher than last year ), Benj Evans (150 places higher than 2025), Jack Barlow and JP Bremerkamp completing the squad. Our under 17 girls placed team 12th with strong runs from Naimah Mossi, Aoife McDonagh, Niamh Stanley all inside the top hundred and Charlotte Stevens and Lily Bridgeman just a few places behind . The under 15 girls made the top 10 with an eighth place team finish. Evie De Bruyn led the team home in 33rd, backed up well by Harriet Hughes, Sofia Mossi, Alba Homans-Yau, Eva John, Beth McGillivray, Lily Day, Amelie Ramdeen (90 places higher than 2025), Aoife Stanley, Elliot Amos and Isabella Jenkins back to racing after injury, completing the squad. Our U13 girl went one better placing seventh team with Jazzy Stephens coming a very strong 31st (50 places higher than 2025) backed up well by Lucy Junginger, Sofia James, Zara Lett and Elsa Matthews all making the top hundred. Holly Tallack,Ella Nixson, Molly Sedgwick, Arianne Paranjpe and Alice Bunn completing the strong large squad. Team silver for our under 13 boys with a superb and gutsy sixth place finish for Zach Evans (60 places higher 2025) with Emery Aldridge not far behind and year young Luc Jones and Anthony Streich completing the scoring four. Great runs by Fletcher Kelly, Haydn Kenny and Alex Coe all making their national debuts. National team Gold for our under 17 boys with a superb individual 3rd for Joe Scanes and a fast finishing fourth for Joseph Hill, backed up superbly by Oliver Ward in 35th and Ben O’Grady in 38th. Showing our strength in depth in this age group Aniket Iyenger was 41st and Kian Farrell not far behind with Nathan Clark and Madalitso Valema-Mwanza completing the strong squad. Our U20 teams were both just one athlete short of a scoring team but this didn’t stop a superb top 20 finish for Jed Starvis in 19th with Harry Fage just missing out on victory in the 1K bicarb challenge and Mark Constable finishing despite carrying a legend injury. Strong runs from Cary’s Firth and Kyla Dervish in the under 20 girls completes our very impressive Young athlete result round up. Back to the hotel for downtime, including swimming and sauna before a lovely three course meal and then our awards, quiz and bingo evening This year we awarded prices for the most improved athletes from the South of England to the National cross-country champs, winning Adidas kit generously donated by Joe Scanes and Club kit . The most improved awards this year went to U13 girls Zara LettU13 boys Anthony Streich U15 girls Evie De Bruyn U15 boys Johnny Lee U17 girls Lily Bridgeman U17 boys Aniket Iyenger A great weekend was had by all but huge thanks to past president Dave Cordell and daughter Alice Cordell for missing breakfast, to get to the course early, to pitch the club tent in the perfect spot. Huge thanks also to Lynda Poyroo for finding and booking the posh hotel, Claire Austridge for organising and chaperoning the weekend and coaches Andy Frankish and Mike Reeves for all their chaperoning and coaching duties, Karen Barlow (expert lifeguard duties too) and Tim Soutar for their chaperoning duties, along with Steve Starvis who devised and perfectly delivered the quiz. Already looking forward to the 2027 version. It is worth noting that this event is normally around the February half Term, to avoid missing this great weekend please don’t book your half term holidays yet. In the Senior events, the Senior Women achieved a high impressive 4th place, led home by Niamh Bridson-Hubbard in 9th, Andrea Clement in 12th and Ailbhe Barnes and Millie Smith packing well in 38th and 42nd respectively. Gracie Horton was 248th. The Senior Men were a respectable 36th in the 6 to score format with scorers Dan Kennedy (262nd), Will Reedman-White (289th), Dave Adams (300th), Micah Evans (382nd), Ian Scott (594th), and Barry Horgan (863rd). President Steve Pairman (879th) and Chris Martin (1012th) completed our contingent.

14 February 2026 – Epping Forest Injuries and illness along with an element of fixture congestion saw us take a smaller than hoped contingent of just 10 runners to Epping Forest with Orion Harriers hosting the double mob match day between us, them and South London Harriers. Conditions underfoot were as tough as anyone could remember with copious quantities of mud and standing water to get through, although the day itself was dry and bright. With 30 runners Orion’s victories against both the visiting clubs was never in doubt. However, with 13 runners, SLH’s numerical advantage was modest and made for a tighter contest between us and them. After 12 successive defeats it was a case of ‘lucky 13’ as with six of our runners in the Top 20 overall compared to only one SLH competitor finishing by that stage we came out on top in a 9-to-score match. Katy Sugden beat the handicapper with 1st place in the Bennett Cup on the day, as well as a credible 4th position of 17 ladies. In the overall season long Bennett Cup it is very tight between David Adams, Greg Firth and Jon Pairman, with just the Closing 5 to come next month.
