7 February 2026 – The Hague A group of over 25 club members along with a handful of guests from Petts Wood Runners and Bromley Vets travelled to The Hague in the Netherlands to take part in Zuiderpark Parkrun, securing the letter “Z” for the popular parkrun alphabet challenge. The group departed on Friday morning, arriving in The Hague in the evening and enjoyed a relaxed meal and drinks together ahead of parkrun day. On Saturday morning runners made their way to Zuiderpark, with some choosing to run to the start while others made use of the city’s efficient tram network. The event attracted 187 participants, including 83 runners from the UK, giving the morning a strong British presence. Zuiderpark offers a fast, flat, two-lap course set within a pleasant park environment, and members produced some excellent performances: Philip Bunn secured 1st place overall Oliver Treasure finished 9th James Webber achieved a top-10 placing Katy Sugden was 2nd lady In addition Iain Swatton, Dave Beadle, Jenny Leng (PWR) and Ian Montgomery all completed their alphabet challenge at Zuiderpark. Following the parkrun, a number of the group took the opportunity to explore The Hague, enjoying a guided tour and taking in the history and character of this attractive city before returning to the UK on Saturday evening. It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend that showcased the very best of the club — strong performances, friendship and shared achievement. Thank you to everyone who travelled and took part; your enthusiasm and support made the trip so memorable.

7 December 2025 – Report by Tom Desborough On a dark and mild Sunday morning, 18 Heathens braved the Valencia streets with 26.2 miles ahead of them. The BBHAC pack was led home by Dylan Mitchard, who produced a storming two-minute PB running 2:29:00. Next home was marathon specialist Fintan Parkinson in 2:34:27, with Sam Douglass close behind in 2:34:54, a four-minute personal best. Ben Hakki delivered an outstanding performance, shattering his personal best by five and a half minutes to achieve 2:38:15. Nick Clegg completed the sub-2:40 contingent with an impressive 2:39:41. Achieving this in just his second marathon, after 2:44:16 in Manchester, marks notable progress. Not far behind, Josh Kennedy and Kev Fini celebrated personal bests, with Josh finishing in 2:42:04 and Kev close behind in 2:42:19. Second claimer Will Senbanjo crossed the line next in 2:43:43, followed by fellow former Petts Wood runner Roger Vilardell, who bravely battled hamstring issues to finish in 2:43:55. Tom Desborough took 13 minutes off his PB with a 2:47:20 in just his second marathon. Shortly after, Luca Ercolani finished in 2:49:22, just four weeks after a 2:46:57 in New York. Alistair Love followed, finishing in 2:49:42. Paul Sharpe finished in 2:57:44 for another sub-3 performance. Paolo Lancini completed the sub-3 club for B&B, coming home in 2:58:05. An impressive run on his debut! Scott Poulier followed in 3:10:53, then Zoe Fiander, Orpington Road Runner’s second claimer, in 3:12:50. Will Brindley followed, completing his 52nd marathon in 3:26:23. Rounding off the impressive contingent was Simon Harris, who finished in 3:39:10, and François Berrier (3.50.00) closing out a memorable day for all. We did have one casualty on the course: Pete Brooks had to drop out at 18km due to severe Achilles pain. His dad and Past President Nick Brooks offered great support out on the course.

The Club were represented by 16 (first claim) runners at the 2023 TCS London Marathon, with all starters also finishing the race! Two of our best athletes in Andrea Clement and Blair Wilson, who had both achieved Championship qualifying, were unfortunately unable to take their place at the start line due to achilles injuries – a real shame as we were expecting great things from them – all the best to them both for a speedy recovery and we hope to see them training and racing for the Club again soon. First mention should go to our three ladies – Carole Coulon who set a new W45 Club record that had stood for some 30 odd years with her 2:55:13 PB – a tremendous run and many Congratulations! Ashley Pearson ran a brilliant 3:05:49 PB in her third London Marathon and first for the Club. Many thanks to Ashley too for her hard work and time spent training our junior athletes. And last but not least a newer member Rita ran her first marathon in 4:33 – she’d not run more than 10k a couple of times before training for London so well done on running and completing your first marathon! Onto the men, led home by Micah Evans with a new PB and first time sub 2:40 in 2:38:34, Robert Perry with an excellent 2:40:15, so close to sub 2:40 in a new PB, Fintan Parkinson in 2:41:19 and on course for sub 2:40 until an existing hip problem flared up in the last few miles. Alex Gibbins was next home in his 375th London Marathon in a comfortable 2:45:47, Fadie Shamoon with a strong run in 2:51:23, Steve Hough with a cracking PB of 2:52:34 beating his previous best from 15+ years ago in his first marathon in New York and Greg Firth with a storming run in a big new first official sub 3 hour PB of 2:53:31 – an emotional finish with his wife and children arriving just in time to cheer him on at the end! Martin Richardson was our next finisher in 2:54:48, also a PB, though he was another afflicted with a hip issue after setting out strongly, so more to come from him. Next up was Steve Evenden with a brilliantly paced new PB in 3:07:56, Francois Berrier in a solid 3:23:10, Martin Parkinson in a good effort of 3:23:27, another who had struggled with injury in his marathon training, Born Barikor in 3:41:21 and George Collins who very much enjoyed his first marathon experience running, high-fiving, eating and drinking his way around London in 5:04:54, following in the footsteps of his Mum and Grandmother both of whom are also London Marathon finishers! In addition to all the above, mentions to second claim members Dylan Mitchard (Belgrave) with a brilliant new PB of 2:36:57, proof that hard work and strong training pays off and Kevin Fini (Harrow) in 2:47:42 – both guys have joined second claim over the past year and run XC for the Club and are great guys to train with. Also second claim Eiko Kobayashi finished in a fantastic 3.22.24 leveraging all the long Sunday runs with the club. Congrats to you all. Last but not least, two fantastic Elite athletes who grew up at Blackheath & Bromley and are still second claim members – Phil Sesseman was the second Brit home in 8th place in the Elite race in a new PB of 2:10:23 and Ross Braden in 16th place with 2:15:47 – inspiration for us as well as all the younger athletes at the Club. Another great London Marathon experience – thanks so much to everyone from the Club (including Dina Asher-Smith and her Mum!) for their amazing support on the course, with what seemed to be cheering every few miles, as well as our families, training partners and friends for all their encouragement and support, without which we wouldn’t have been able to train and race – thank you all!

Great conditions saw four Blackheath and Bromley athletes putting in good performances at the Valencia Marathon at the weekend with Scott Overall on pacing duties helping Bojana Bjeljac to a new Croatian National record and Giovanna Epis to the third fastest time in history by an Italian women, both of whom gained world championship qualifying times. Of the members competing Blair Wilson came in first in 2:38:58 securing his London Championship place after messing up his pacing at London by 90 seconds. The cost for this mistake is around £11 per second, having to go to Spain to get the job done. Fintan Parkinson, agonisingly close after experiencing serious cramps in the last mile came home with a great time of 2:40:58, not what he wanted but in great shape and plenty of marathons next year to provide Fintan with sub elite qualifying opportunities. Paul Sharpe just making the start after some bag drop issues recorded 3:00:09 to round off the trio, all finishing quite close to each other, again so close to that sub three but a great run nonetheless. Beers and tapas followed before some recovery and back to the winter men’s season. Up The Heath!
