14 very keen Heathen’s turned out for the Club at the High Elms 10k. Orpington Road Runners managed the event very efficiently with marshal’s everywhere to be seen! The course was marked clearly with special mention to the back breaking work that must have been done is marking the many many tree routes.
Numbers of runners were down by 1/3 on previous years, with the 232 entrants running split into 4 timed groups. We were walked to the start in groups of 6, where each small group was sent off with short gaps between them. ORR had put people into rough expected finishing times meaning most were running around other competitors expecting a similar finish time. This all made for an enjoyable event, and it was good to see BBHAC so well represented and competing so well.
The race has around 700ft of climbs , which is believed potentially qualifies it for a category C fell race – so not one to run PBs in! Graeme Lugar was first home for the Club, finishing in an impressive 2nd place with a time of 37.58. Not far behind was Luca Ercolani in 38.51 finishing 5th, and with Justin Strover also in the top 10 ( 40.13). With 3 in the top 8 finishers BBHAC won the team prize. Luca won the Master (M40) race as well. Also winning his age category was Roger Beswick (42.49).
