On Sunday 27th June club Members Daisy Snell and Alyssa Firla, representing Kent Schools Athletics Association, participated in the English Schools’ Athletics Association Combined Events South East Regional Final at Lee Valley. The event attracted the very best multi-event athletes from eight counties: Berkshire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex.
The standard at this event is always incredibly high, and both Blackheath and Bromley athlete’s rose to the occasion. Daisy had a fierce battle with an athlete from Surrey throughout the competition, and took a superb 2nd place, setting a new Pentathlon PB and club record. At the time of writing this report, Daisy’s performance moves her up to 29th on the Under 15 Pentathlon All Time List ahead of both Jessica Ennis-Hill and Sally Gunnell at the same age. More good news is that Daisy has received confirmation that she will be representing KSAA at the ESAA individual events Finals in Manchester on 11th July in the high jump.
Alyssa put together an excellent series of performances on the day and was rewarded with six PBs. She finished 11th overall (in her first year in the age group) and helped Kent finish second to a very strong Surrey team who broke the meeting record for the highest score for the top three combined scores by a county. The experience gained this year should help her achieve greater rewards next year.
