The Blackheath and Bromley u20 team that represented GB at the European Athletics DNA Club Championship performed extraordinarily well over the weekend. Dominating the competition over two days, our athletes secured 9 1st places, 7 2nds and 1 3rd out of 22 events.

We were unfortunate not to win the title because of the emphasis on the unconventional closing event, The Hunt, where despite our dominance in the competition leading into it, we could not match the performance of the other teams on the final leg. A disappointing conclusion to an otherwise sterling effort by all involved.

The performances, comportment and attitude of our athletes was exemplary. We can hold our heads high knowing that we have most definitely made our mark as the outstanding club in Europe at the u20 level – a factor noticed by the athletes and coaches of the other clubs present.

Nuances of the event prevented us from coming home with the top prize but this doesn’t diminish the performance of our athletes who, for many, were competing on the biggest stage of their careers so far.

Bring on the 2024 season!
