The recent Ray Hall Memorial Winter Track League races concluded with match 4 in Aldershot.

The series aimed to provide well funded competition opportunity to race walkers. At this final match Luke Eperon came 2nd in the under 13 boys with 10:25.15 (PB) in the 1500m walk. Florence Watson came 4th in the U15 girls 2000m walk with a time of 14:28.58 (PB). The Senior mens race over 5000m saw Matthew Ellerton come 4th in 30:20.22.

Luke (right hand image) also came 2nd overall in the U13B for the league! Both Luke and Florence are coached by Shaun Lightman. Shaun (3rd from left in left hand image) recently shared with us the photo on the left which is daughter had found of him.

Reflecting on the image he said “It was taken at the beginning of the City of London 3miles walk 1st January 1976. The three competitors left to right are John Lees (Brighton and Hove), Derek Johnson (Brighton and Hove), and myself.

Derek is wearing the club vest of the Shore Athletic Club New York.John Lees holds the record for walking from the City Hall Los Angeles to the City Hall New York, a distance of 2,876 miles which he covered from 11th April to 3rd June 1972 53days 12 hours and 15 minutes”.
