Great turnout from the girls to represent the club on Saturday – travelling from Manchester, Birmingham, Cambridge, Herne Bay and London.
This is always a great occasion, with a carnival atmosphere and probably the most exciting Cross Country event of the season. During the race positions changed several times and there were some good viewing places to be close to the action. There was a stellar field with the likes of Gemma Steel, Steph Twell and many other top female athletes who have represented GB.
So it was great to see our teams finishing 7th and 34th out of 139 teams.
Chloe led out the A team managed to put us in 23rd place. Niamh took over – and even though not feeling great she was the 2nd fastest athlete to finish leg 2 to bring us up to 5th place going into the 3rd leg. Millie completed the team and ran strongly to bring us home in 7th.
Great to see Naomi Kingston, who has recently re-joined the club and travelled by coach from Manchester to partake. Naomi ran a strong first leg, handing over to Leah and then Amy who both produced gutsy runs to finish an impressive 34th.
I would like to mention a special thanks to Andy Frankish who has spent hours/days/months/years coaching nearly all of these women in the past and still keeps in regular contact with some of them when they have moved on to University fostering a great club/team spirit.
Thank you Andy and well done ladies.
