Twenty-four Blackheath & Bromley athletes went to the UK Athletics Championships at Manchester on Saturday and Sunday, 8-9 July. There was plenty of rain to greet them, with Saturday being particularly grim, with thunder and lightning playing around the stadium. Our athletes created their own storm, with 15 of them making it through to their finals, and six getting to stand on the podium.

Our medallists were:

• Bekah Walton (58.19) took Gold and Lauren Farley (53.18m) took Bronze in the Javelin

• Divine Oladipo (16.28m) took Bronze in the Shot Put, and she also finished 7th in the Discus (53.92m)

• Zara Obamakinwa (55.99m) took Bronze in the Discus. Zara’s throw set new club records for Under 20 and Under 23 Women

• Ben Hawkes (70.08m) won Silver in the Hammer

• Dina Asher-Smith (11.06) won Gold in the 100m

Our other finalists were Adam Gemili (4th, 100m), Yasmin Austridge (5th, 3000m Steeplechase), Cleo Agyepong (5th, Shot Put), Dillon Claydon (7th, Discus), Niamh Bridson Hubbard (7th, 1500m), Lewis Mills (7th, 3000m Steeplechase), Faith Akinbileji (8th, 200m) and Sophie Dowson (9th, Pole Vault).
